Blocky’s Text category consists of five editing blocks:

  1. Paragraphs

  2. Headings

  3. Quotes

  4. Lists

  5. Tables

Note that after you create a block, you can edit and remove it at any time.

In the sections below we explore the functionality of each Text block type:

 Paragraphs

The paragraph block is a text-only block that journalists use for adding most of the general content to their articles, videos or galleries.

Several basic settings are available when using the paragraph block:

  • Bold

  • Italic

  • Underline

  • Links

  • Highlight

  • Headings

  • Quotes

 Headings

Headings are like an outline of your content. They help structure and break text logically into smaller sections. Headings are a pithy way to describe what succeeding sections are about, as well as visual points of reference to help readers scan content.

There are different heading levels to communicate the importance of different points journalists want to make. Content creators can use HTML heading tags <h1> through <h3>.

 Quotes

Quotes are text-only blocks used for highlighting a quote from someone usually important to the story or a short sentence to grab the reader’s attention.

Bear in mind that each media has a style guide that sets rules of quoting. However, a general rule of thumb is, if the quote is from a person or publication, include the author’s name and title.

 Lists

Lists is a text-only block allowing journalists to present complex text in a scannable by adding Bulleted and/or Numbered lists to their content.

Bulleted lists are normally used to present related things that don’t need to appear in particular order.

Numbered lists are most often used to present sequential items like procedures, or prioritized items such as “Top 10” lists.

Lists block settings:

  • Numbered list

  • Bulleted list

  • Bold

  • Italic

  • Underline

  • Links

When you want to add something different to your content, you will need to use a different type of block.

 Tables

The Tables block is used to display numbers, comparisons or organize your content and data in tabular format.

Once you add a Table block, you can define table headers of columns and rows, or merge table cells.

Column settings:

  • Column headers

  • Insert column left

  • Insert column right

  • Delete column

Row settings:

  • Row headers

  • Insert row below

  • Insert row above

  • Delete row

Merge cells settings:

  • Merge cell up

  • Merge cell right

  • Merge cell down

  • Merge cell left

  • Split cell vertically

  • Split cell horizontally

You can add tables with up to 10 rows and columns.
